« Back to Glossary Index

An audio file format standard used for storing digital audio data, usually uncompressed pulse-code modulation (PCM) data, using about 10MB for one minute of stereo audio at 44.1kHz and 16BIT depth; the compressed variant of AIFF is AIFF-C or AIFC.

The format was developed by Apple in 1988, and it is used by pro audio programs. The format is based on the preceding Amiga Systems IFF (Electronic Arts Interchange File Format).
