Absorption

« Back to Glossary Index

In acoustics, the capacity for a material, structure, or object to absorb energy as sound waves (as opposed to reflecting energy). The portion of the sound wave converted to heat is “lost”, and this process is acoustic attenuation. Studio designers  apply principles of absorption to control the sound energy in an environment or space.
