Pure Data (Pd) is a visual programming language for multimedia. Its main distribution (Pd Vanilla) is developed by Miller Puckette. Uses for Pd may include programming synthesis or sample based instruments, sound design which may be implemented within games engines, and generative compositions. Pure Data lets you process audio and MIDI in a modular environment, and combine it with video, custom hardware controllers, light shows, and robotics. The software is open source; Pd has an active user community, and is prominently featured in academic computer music programs and conferences.
